Absurdism emphasizes hopelessness and degeneration of man to nothingness. Against this backdrop, the researcher attempts an examination of the Existentialist-Absurdist theatre using Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot as an expatiation of the existentialist-absurdist philosophy of Jean Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. However, with the rise of avant-garde movement, in the wake of the twentieth century, theatre gained prominence for its use to explain theory, opinion, movement and even philosophy. Drama, over the ages has served different purposes across culture, ranging from being a tool for cultural expression, making political statement agitation, propaganda, etcetera. ![]()
